Here is a selection of Hadith on the virtues of trade:

COMPULSORY
The seeking of Halaal income is a compulsory duty after the compulsory duty of Salaah.

PROFESSION
Verily Allah loves a believer who has a profession.

BEST EARNINGS
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam was once asked, ‘Which earnings are the best?’ He replied: ‘(The earnings of) a man’s own hands, and a mabroor transaction (a deal free of all Haraam and unIslamic practices.’

TIRED
Whosoever comes home at night exhausted from the day’s labour, there is forgiveness for him the entire night.

HIGH RANKS
The honest and truthful trader will be among the Prophets, the pious and the martyrs on the day of Qiyamah.

PATH OF ALLAH
If a man goes out to earn for his little children, he is in the path of Allah; and if he goes out to earn for his aged parents, he is also in the path of Allah.

BEGGING
It is better for one to take his rope and bring from the forest a bundle of wood on his back, and sell it, thereby staving off disgrace, than begging from people.
